nip’s hip picks: fashion for breakfast

arrrgh me maties! I’m talking like a pirate because I pretty much am one in this outfit… a trendy one though 😉 I wore this outfit to the last Fashion for Breakfast event. This was going to be an outfit post but I just realized it should be a nip’s hip picks post because I want to talk about Fashion for Breakfast too. SO I’m gonna do that 🙂 Read on for a [recently decided] loaded post and listen to Like an Animal but Rüfüs du Sol.

Fashion for Breakfast is a really cool event because each time they have it, a new speaker, brand, blogger, or company hosts it. This past Fashion for Breakfast was at Cecconi’s at Soho Beach House (SUPER cute and delicious by the way… scroll down for pics) and was hosted by Yael Aflalo, the Founder and CEO of… (wait for it)… Reformation! If you’re not familiar with Ref, they’re really special because not only do they have really beautiful, unique clothing but they source sustainable fabrics and vintage garments, meaning they’re eco-friendly!

So before we got there, I just had one question… I know it’s “Fashion” for breakfast but is mama gonna get some actual breakfast too?! Luckily, the answer was yes. #blessup We had a little menu that we could order from. I ordered some orange juice (freshly damn squeezed) and an avocado toast with a poached egg on top. Kuza ordered a yummy looking oatmeal grain bowl with a bunch of berries and little nibbles on top. I’m not an oatmeal fan but I would probably scarf that down if it was as good as my toast!

While we were eating this delicious breakfast, Yael (known as Yaya) was talking about sustainability in fashion. Wanna know something crazy?

It takes 2000 gallons of water to make 1 pair of jeans.

That FREAKED me the fuggg out. Everyone wears jeans so imagine all of the water that’s being wasted 😦

We talked about a lot of other really cool things and then my girl gang and I got to sit down and talk to Yaya alone! It was crazy getting to talk to her and getting some advice. ❤

Now, on to the outfit! I went REALLY simple with it and let the outfit do the talking this time so I don’t have many accessories on *disclaimer* 😦

As you can see, I really did wear a pirate-sleeved top. I bought this top a month or two ago but haven’t worn it yet because I was iffy every time I put it on because of the sleeves. But then I was like “these are dope” and realized that’s what made the top unique.

Version 2

I love that this is a wrap-tie top because it leaves room for creativity! I wrapped the top around my lower back and back around my stomach and then back again on my lower back and made a cute little bow. I honestly had to tie it really tight because I don’t have the boobs to fill it out so I had to do that to prevent it from falling off.. #hipnipnipslip or what?!

Version 2

I also went ahead and wore this high waisted mini skirt. It’s my go-to because I love the studs and slits along the trimming of it. And how can you go wrong with a black & white outfit?!

Version 2Version 2

Of course, I had to wear my favorite sparkly socks and platform loafers. I’ve been wearing this pair for days upon days (gross, I know, I’ll wash them RELAX).

Version 2

I went so simple with the jewelry, I told you! I didn’t wear anything on my neck and only work one or two bracelets and my hip nip ring to let the sleeves take over the outfit instead of my jewelry.

Version 2

I hope you guys enjoyed this post! I urge you to find fashion events in your area, grab your girl gang and go go go! (you might get some yummy food out of it)

stay on point,
